Plant and origin
The Rooibos plant is a small bush with thin needle like leaves and little yellow flower which is only growing in the western cape region of South Africa. The harvest time is January to March.
Drunken as tea, Rooibos is a very famous popular beverage in the South African region.
Processing and appearance
For the raw material, leaves and fine stems of the bush are cut and sundried. The ready drug is a red-brown needle like tea which gives a quite dark brown reddish cup.
It’s taste can be described as earthy-refreshing to sweet.
Ingredients and health effects
The product contains a rich number of minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, copper, zinc, manganese, iron.
Rooibos is caffeine free and contains a high percentage of anti-oxidants. It is said to have positive health effects on digestion diseases and skin problems. The anti-oxidants are so called free radical catchers.
